Area Guide

Living in Newport Beach

Our two Esplanade homes sit in a quiet residential pocket of Newport Beach with a rare advantage for a temporary stay: nearly everything a household needs day to day is in the neighborhood itself.

Your first week

Within a short distance of both homes you will find a grocery store, a CVS with pharmacy, Starbucks, casual dining, and an urgent care - the practical checklist of a first week, handled without a freeway. If your family is arriving after a loss, that matters more than any attraction: errands stay small, and the household finds its rhythm quickly. Families enrolling mid-year are in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District; ask us and we will help you find your assigned schools.

The estuary

The homes sit near the Upper Newport Bay - a natural estuary ringed with walking and biking trails and one of the largest coastal wetlands left in Southern California. It is the neighborhood’s quiet centerpiece: morning walks, herons and stingrays in the shallows, and a long car-free loop when you need to clear your head.

The coast and beyond

The classic Newport Beach of piers, the Balboa Peninsula, and harbor-front dining is a short drive away, as is Fashion Island for shopping and restaurants, with the Irvine Spectrum a little further inland. For bigger outings, Angels baseball and Honda Center events are up the freeway in Anaheim, and Disneyland is well within day-trip range. Weekends fill themselves; school-year routines stay easy.

A few places we send guests

The city’s Cultural Arts program - run through the Newport Beach Public Library with the City Arts Commission - keeps a year-round calendar of exhibits and events, a good anchor for longer stays. Fashion Island covers shopping and restaurant nights; the Balboa Fun Zone and ferry make an easy family outing; and the Back Bay Science Center hosts programs on the estuary you will be walking every morning. Ask us for current favorites when you arrive.

For our guests

The Esplanade House and Esplanade House II share this neighborhood - both single-story, both with accessibility modifications, both at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. For a family rebuilding after a fire or flood, it is a gentle place to land.
